SACRAMENTO – Matthew Rodriquez, California Secretary for Environmental Protection, issued the following statement regarding the appointment of Barbara A. Lee as director of the Department of Toxic Substances Control:
“I am delighted by the Governor’s decision to appoint Barbara A. Lee as director of the Department of Toxic Substances Control.
“Barbara is an experienced environmental regulator with a strong science and technical background and a demonstrated commitment to environmental justice and community engagement. For nearly 20 years, she has managed a successful air quality program in Sonoma County while playing a leadership role in environmental policy and regulation statewide.
“CalEPA is eager to continue efforts, begun under Barbara’s predecessor, to improve the Department’s performance on permitting, enforcement and other areas. Throughout her impressive career, Barbara has risen to new challenges. Her experience administering an effective regulatory program and her reputation for working collaboratively with stakeholders, other government agencies and the Legislature make her the right person to lead DTSC forward.
“We look forward to welcoming Barbara to CalEPA.”
