California leaders visit China to strengthen climate partnerships, advance global climate action
The secretaries of the California Environmental Protection Agency and California State Transportation Agency visited China in March 2024 to make progress on key climate and clean transportation priorities, including finalizing workplans for two of California’s memorandums of understanding with Chinese provinces and municipalities. The trip built on Gov. Gavin Newsom’s visit in October 2023, when California signed MOUs that strengthen California’s work with China on climate action. Read the press release. (4/2/24)
California’s landmark plastic pollution law moves forward
Taking action to address global plastic pollution while spurring innovation and job creation, California is launching new recycling regulations, reforms and funding to reduce single-use plastic waste in our state through cutting-edge technology. California has released draft regulations for the country’s strongest requirements for producers to cut single-use plastic waste and ensure packaging is recyclable or compostable. CalEPA announces first recipients of Environmental Justice Action Grants
California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) announced on Thursday the first-ever awardees of its new Environmental Justice Action Grants Program. During this first round of funding, more than $6 million will go to 27 projects led by local organizations and Tribes. Awardees include eight federally recognized Tribes and span more than 12 counties with a focus on communities where pollution and environmental hazards are highest.
