Jeremy Brown, Assistant General Counsel

Jeremy Brown was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom in October 2019 to serve as Assistant General Counsel for the California Environmental Protection Agency.  He came to CalEPA from the California Department of Justice, where he had served five years as Deputy Attorney General in the Land Law Section. During that time, he represented state agencies – including the Delta Stewardship Council, the Department of Housing and Community Development, and the California Department of Parks and Recreation – in a range of land use and environmental matters.  Prior to entering state service, Jeremy taught environmental law at the University of Texas School of Law;  worked as an associate at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe; and was a legal fellow at the Natural Resources Defense Council. He is a graduate of Brown University and University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.
