SACRAMENTO – Matt Rodriquez, Secretary for Environmental Protection, released the following statement in response to Governor Brown’s Executive Order declaring a drought State of Emergency in California:

“The Governor’s Executive Order will give California’s water leaders tools to manage our water resources during what is projected to be the driest year on record. Farmers, tribes and communities are already feeling the effects of our third year of below normal precipitation. Collaboration among federal, state and local agencies will help us best use the supplies we have. The Governor’s emergency order will give the State Water Resources Control Board the flexibility to take sensible, prudent action to deal with the extraordinarily dry conditions. Most importantly, we all must do our part to save water and reduce our consumption by 20 percent. Conservation by individuals, organizations
and industries is crucial to surviving this drought.”
