Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of the Environmental Health Hazard Assessment Appointed
SACRAMENTO-- Director Dr. Joan Denton of the California Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) today announced the appointment of Dr. George Alexeeff as the Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs, effective Monday, February 16, 1998.
"George brings a wealth of experience about our programs and brings both technical and administrative experience to this position. I have observed and always respected the work that he has accomplished over the years," said Dr. Denton.
Dr. Alexeeff has been Chief of the Air Toxicology and Epidemiology section for OEHHA since 1990. In this position he supervised a staff of approximately 30 persons, responsible for carrying our risk assessments of chemical contamination arising from airborne releases of hazardous chemicals, and the deposition of suchsubstances in various media such as water and food. Previously he was Chief of the Air Toxics Unit for the California Department of Health Services. Dr. Alexeeff received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of California at Davis and a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Alexeeff will oversee the four scientific, sections of OEHHA. He will be responsible for the operations of the Hazardous Waste Toxicology, Reproductive and Cancer Hazard Assessment, Air Toxicology and Epidemiology, and Pesticide and Environmental Toxicology Sections.
