SANTA ROSA--Continuing Governor Wilson's program to reinvigorate California's economic and environmental leadership through regulatory reform and improved customer service, the North Bay Permit Assistance Center formally opened today to serve the business community in the Santa Rosa area.

California Secretary for Environmental Protection Peter M. Rooney described the Center, which brings together permitting authorities from state, local and regional government, as another example of the State's determination to simplify the permitting process for employers.

"These Centers serve as a valuable ally for regulatory reform and a sensible permitting process." Rooney said. "With the support of the business community and all levels of government, the Centers will help California businesses and protect our environment."

The Center is the thirteenth Permit Assistance Center (PAC) to open with others in Contra Costa, Kern, Fresno, Ontario (with a satellite office in Riverside), Santa Ana, San Diego, South Orange County, San Fernando Valley, San Jose, Los Angeles and Oakland. These Centers have helped more than 35,000 customers. The North Bay Permit Assistance Center is located in the City of Santa Rosa, at the Sonoma County Permit and Resources Management Building, 2550 Ventura Avenue. The Center's hours of operation are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.

The North Bay Permit Assistance Center will be initially operated by staff from Cal/EPA's Department of Toxic Substances Control, the North Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board, and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

The Center provides a single point of contact for projects requiring multiple permits or regulatory assistance. Staff will identify permit requirements and monitor and facilitate the issuance of all permits needed.

Additionally the Centers provide:

  • Permit Identification and Issuance
  • Regulatory Compliance Assistance
  • On-site Permit Expertise from State and Local Agencies
  • Early Assistance "Roundtable" meetings
  • Identification of recurring Procedural and Regulatory Roadblocks.
