Wastewater treatment operator jailed, fined -- John Ekizian was convicted Wednesday on misdemeanor charges for operating a wastewater treatment plant without a license, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office said.

Equilon Enterprises, LLC, now doing business as the Shell Martinez Refinery, has been prosecuted and sentenced

Contra Costa County, CA - OCTOBER 7, 2002 Contra Costa County District Attorney Gary T. Yancey announced today that Equilon Enterprises, LLC, now doing business as the Shell Martinez Refinery, has been prosecuted and sentenced on misdemeanor charges under the Health and Safety Code arising out of air emission violations in October and December of last year. Equilon was charged with negligently emitting air contaminants on October 14 and October 17, 2001, causing a public nuisance. Equilon was also charged with negligently emitting air contaminants in violation of Bay Area Air Quality Management District regulations on October 12, 15, 16 and December 25 of 2001. Equilon was convicted on its plea to each of the six counts of the criminal complaint.

Equilon will pay a fine of $405,000, the maximum allowed by law. In addition, Equilon will pay the sum of $270,000 to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to be used in a project to benefit air quality in the Martinez and Central Contra Costa County area.
