The Environmental Enforcement and Training Grant Program (Penal Code sections 14300 et seq. and Title 27, Section 10014 of the California Code of Regulations). provides a non-general fund source of financial assistance for environmental enforcement, education and training to enhance statewide enforcement of environmental laws. Funding sources include donations from environmental enforcement settlements that provide for contribution to the fund.
The Penal Code provides that funds in this account are distributed:

- 25% but no more than $100,000 to the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards & Training for environmental enforcement training
- Remaining funds to Cal/EPA for grants for environmental enforcement and training
Every year approximately 25% of the fund is available for Cal/EPA grants described in #4. These grants are awarded once a year. Grant amounts vary annually. Applications for grants are accepted September 1-30 every year.
