Seeking Curriculum Writers 

The California Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI) is seeking experienced curriculum writers for 8th–12th grade history-social science units. Get paid to write landmark new environment-based curriculum for the State of California. We expect to produce more than 100 California EEI Curriculum units. Full credit to all writers is included in each unit.

We need professors, graduate students, and other experienced curriculum writers with expertise in one or more of the following:

American Democracy Contemporary Social Issues Economics European Exploration of the New World European Immigration European Industrial Revolution Growth of U.S. Population and Rural to Urban Migration

Latin American Development U.S. Agricultural Development U.S. Foreign Policy U.S. History U.S. Industrialization World Geography World History

The California Education and the Environment Initiative (EEI) Curriculum is fully embraced by:

• State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell
• California’s educational and environmental agencies

Quick facts about the California EEI Curriculum:

1. The California EEI Curriculum is a model for the nation.
2. The materials are written by professional curriculum writers.
3. EEI units will help six million California students in grades K-12 learn about the interrelationships between the natural environment and human social systems.
4. EEI lessons help teach to mastery selected academic standards in science and history-social science, and strengthen English-language arts skills.
5. Each unit is designed to make learning about the environment and the world around us engaging, relevant, and fun.
6. The curriculum will be provided free of charge to all California school districts.
7. Partners like the National Geographic Society are contributing to the rich, diverse, and visually stunning design of the EEI materials.

Prior to applying, applicants are strongly encouraged to review a sample completed unit in order to understand the scope of work that will be required of writers. A sample 5th-grade unit is posted at http://www.seer.org/EEI/5.3.b.pdf.
